GlassHouse Releases Tool for Data Center Migrations and Consolidations
Reflector Tool Creates a “Single Point of Truth” to Ensure a Successful Project

Framingham, Mass., August 5, 2008 – GlassHouse Technologies, a global provider of independent IT infrastructure consulting services, today announced the release of Reflector, a proprietary tool for managing data center migrations and consolidations. Reflector acts as a “single point of truth,” creating an efficient and streamlined process for managing a successful migration or consolidation project.

Often a challenge for IT managers, data center migrations are a necessary, yet complicated initiative for any IT department.  By tracking all the requisite details of the migration or consolidation and then modeling potential outcomes, IT managers are provided with a roadmap to reduce costs and minimize risks. Once the appropriate migration strategy is solidified, Reflector then helps manage the entire process by flagging task and application interdependencies and serving as a central filter through which the data center team can track progress.  This “single point of truth” details which tasks are completed, what’s yet to be done, and what could happen if there is a change in plans.  Reflector not only helps IT managers save money and time, but greatly enhances their chances for success.

“Data center migrations rarely, if ever, go as planned, leading to increased exposure to downtime and ballooning costs,” said John Webster, principal IT advisor for Illuminata, Inc.  “Here, even for highly competent IT organizations, it pays to have expert help to minimize risk and control costs.”

Reflector takes a unique approach by focusing on the process through specific steps to reduce risks.  The steps are:

  • Establishing and managing application-centric detailed plans
  • Flagging interdependencies and potential risks
  • Mapping applications to physical devices
  • Modeling various scenarios before the migrations are implemented

“Today’s enterprises can’t afford down time and a data center migration gone awry can have a significant impact on both the company’s reputation and bottom line,” said Bill Peldzus, vice president of data center services.  “Reflector, as an integral part of our data center service offerings, helps to minimize the risks throughout a migration by identifying key issues before they are incurred and affect the success of the project.”

For GlassHouse, Reflector fits within its broader service delivery platform, Transom. This unique delivery framework consists of software tools, proprietary methodologies and best-in-class consultants with deep domain expertise. Transom enables the efficient integration of technology solutions for an accelerated return on investment.

“Every one of our customer engagements uses some combination of our software tools, proprietary methodologies and domain expertise,” said Richard Scannell, senior vice president and co-founder of GlassHouse.  “Reflector is a critical component in our Transom software toolset to support customers tackling a data center migration.”
